To Coraline and beyond: custom made button eye dolls

coraline

I posted two little Coraline dolls last week. Off to their new homes in time for Halloween. I was sorting out all my pictures this morning and looking back at the photos of my various Coraline dolls made me want to share a few here.

Coraline edit 1

These dolls all began when I was asked to make a doll based on the Coraline film for a little girl who was a big fan. The first doll was very much modelled on the film, with blue hair and a yellow coat and boots. As with all my dolls I had to start by designing a pattern for her. I was so pleased with how the final doll turned out. Having made her, I listed her for sale in my Etsy store and began to get requests for similar dolls.

Like my friend

I have made several dolls as gifts for friends. These dolls are based on the overall style of my Coraline doll but in the image of the recipient. I love making these ones, changing the hair, the skin tone or the outfit gives the original doll a totally new look. There are too many to show here, but this is a selection…

Coraline dolls

Of course lots of people still want a Coraline doll. The iconic blue hair and yellow jacket. Some in jeans, others in dresses. Some with a bag or the stone. Perhaps even with a little Wybie note.

Off to new homes

I make my dolls here in Lancashire but they end up in homes all round the world. Each doll is wrapped in tissue and lace ribbon. I can even send them direct to the recipient.
