I love having my own craft room. PepperPot’s HQ isn’t always tidy, but it is my space to work and be creative.
When I first started making dolls I kept my supplies in a drawer and sat on the sofa to work.
Don’t get me wrong, I still enjoy a TV and sewing afternoon. With Formula 1 finally returning to action at the weekend I spend Sunday afternoon watching my favourite sport. At the same time I was sewing and stuffing the arms and legs for my latest doll.
However it makes a massive difference to have a dedicated craft space. There is nothing more frustrating that having to pack away a half finished project. Out of sight, out of mind meant I often forgot or lost motivation to return to things. Now I can have multiple projects on the go and they can stay as they are until I finish.
My craft room is painted white because I find it helps with keeping the room light. It also makes a good background for photographs.
I have tons of fabrics and felt which I keep stashed away in boxes. In the corner I have my lovely vintage Singer sewing machine. It doesn’t work but I love it, and it often stars in my product photos.
I like to have some of my doll samples around to remind me of what I have made. I also keep other things from creative projects like this needle felted fox I made on a workshop with the lovely Mrs Bee Felts. He sits on top of my trusty Ikea drawers where I store all my threads and ribbons.
My room also houses all the ‘stuff’ for the various craft activities I have a go at with my children. That’s the not-so-tidy bit where I have boxes stuffed with tissue paper, empty toilet rolls, paints and glue. We have been making plenty of use of these supplies over the last few months at home.
So that’s my craft room space, what’s yours like?
