The school summer holidays are fast approaching but for many they will be a little bit different this year. If, like us, you have been home schooling your kids for the past few months the ‘breaking up for summer’ thing feels like carrying on regardless. Your summer holiday plans might also be out of the window.

I always imagine the school holidays will be 6 straight weeks of warm and sunny carefree fun. The reality is that there will be rainy days and bored days and days where you need to occupy them while you work.

Kids craft ideas are great ways to keep children of all ages busy and entertained. So it’s time to get prepared and have some indoor activity plans in place. I have several craft kits in my store that are great for boys and girls and work for all different age groups.

Many of my kits are no-sew crafts. One thing that really bugs me when I buy kits for my children is that the craft glue supplied is so cheap it is useless. I always provide good quality craft glue so you know it will actually do the job.

Peg doll craft kit

Did you make peg dolls when you were little? I remember making these with my Grandma.

My peg doll kits give you everything you need to make two cute little peg doll friends. The kit comes with two blank peg dolls. You can wrap the yarn round to make the clothes then accessorize however you like!

Little ones might find the yarn wrapping a bit tricky on their own. You can help them with this stage, or let them freestyle and just add the embellishments on. Older children will be kept occupied wrapping the yarn onto the dolls.

Your kit includes yarn for both pegs, wool for hair and a range of ribbon or trimmings to add as accessories. It also includes craft glue. Good craft glue.

Felt bunting craft kit

Are you doing some redecorating, or just decluttering kids rooms ready for the start of the next school year? If so then how about giving them the chance to make some felt bunting to decorate their newly de-junked bedroom?

You can request your own colours for the kit so it will match with your room colour scheme. Each kit comes with two colours of felt flags and matching shapes to decorate them with. You will receive a 1.2m spool of ribbon to attach them to and your bunting is finished!

The bunting is made from felt because it is so easy to work with and perfect for children. There is also no sewing needed here (although if you have older children and they would like to hand or machine sew the bunting then go for it!) Craft glue is included in your kit.

Monster Maker craft kit

For a fun craft activity why not get your little ones to make their own monsters. This really simple monster maker craft kit is perfect for younger children.

This is another easy no-sew craft kit. You will receive three monster bodies, already sewn for you. The kit includes eyes, mouths and hair in different styles and colours.

Have fun making lots of monster faces with different features. They can be scary, funny, cute – whatever you like. Use the craft glue when you are ready to fix the face in place.

Felt flowers craft kit

The felt flowers craft kit is really versatile and gives you lots of options to choose from for your final product. With this kit your child can try some simple sewing and there is a needle and some coloured threads included.

In your kit you will receive a set of felt shapes which you can put together however you like to create flowers, keep them simple or layer them up. Add one of the buttons provided to finish your flower.

If you or your child is new to sewing then you can simply use the thread to attach the layers together. If you would like to make it more advanced, try sewing decorative stitches around the edges or in patterns on the felt.

Once you have made your flowers you can decide how to use them. The kit comes with a set of paper straws, attach the flowers to the top and display as a bouquet. Want to wear your flower? Use the brooch back to create a flower pin or the cotton yarn to make a flower headband.

Your finished pieces would make lovely gifts and would be easy to post to a friend or family member you cannot see face to face. How happy would Grandma be with a felt flower brooch made just for her?

Crafty Bits craft bundle

As well as my craft kits I now stock a Crafty Bits craft pack that is perfect for a school holiday crafty day. Packaged in a cute brown paper bag, the Crafty Bits bundle is jam packed with lots of craft supplies.

Each pack contains paper, fabric, felt, ribbon, wool, trimmings, buttons, craft feathers and googly eyes. What you do with them is up to you!

Little ones can create collages, older children could try sewing buttons onto fabric. You can even use the bag as part of your design. Each pack is unique and is made from off cuts and small pieces that might otherwise be discarded. This is a zero-waste craft kit where your children’s imagination can have free rein.
